The Youth ministry at Renner Lutheran Church meets on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Youth meetings are for those in 6th grade through their senior year in high school, and generally include various games (“capture the flag,” 4-square, spoons, “catch me if you can,” Ultimate Frisbee, etc.), devotions and fellowship. In addition to monthly meetings, the youth also enjoy monthly/or periodic events for fun, fellowship and service. Such events include:

  • Bowling
  • Sledding
  • Camping
  • Lock-ins (sometimes led by Augustana College students)
  • Roller skating
  • Car wash
  • Softball against adults within the congregation
  • Visiting/caroling at shut-ins of Renner Lutheran

In addition to monthly events, the senior youth also have a major event each summer, such as a trip to World’s of Fun and The Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the triennial National Youth Gather of youth from across the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), and a canoe trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota. In the summer of 2015, six senior youth from Renner Lutheran attended the National Youth Gathering in Detroit, Michigan.  In 2018 several senior high youth will be attending the National Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas from June 27 through July 1.  The National Gathering welcome youth entering the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades in the fall of 2018, and 2018 high school graduates.

The Renner youth periodically have fund raising events in order to finance many of their projects and outings.

While the senior youth have some major events each summer, the junior youth (6th – 8th grade) attend “Faith Fest” each February at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD.

Service events that both Middle or Senior high youth participate in include:

  • Food to You
  • Kids Against Hunger
  • Angel Tree @ Christmas time
